About Us

The Montessori Children's House of Peoria, founded in 1977, is the only independent, secular Montessori school in the Peoria area. We currently offer Primary, Kindergarten, and Elementary classes for children ages 3-12, and we will soon begin offering a Middle School program for ages 12-14. The Montessori method of education has been proven to provide children with an education that inspires innovation, success, and a love of learning.

Feel free to stop by for an Open House! Every Wednesday morning at 10:30 we offer an Open House to new families who are interested in visiting our school and seeing what we have to offer.

Here, you will find information on what A Montessori Education is all about, as well as a short history of Our School.

Ours was a house for children, rather than a school. We had prepared a place for children where structure could be assimilated from the environment, without any need for direct instruction. We saw them absorb more than reading and writing: botany, zoology, mathematics, geography, and all with the same ease, spontaneously and without getting tired. We discovered that education is not something that the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops spontaneously in the human being.

- Dr. Maria Montessori

The school does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, admission policies, and other school administered programs.
